«В червленом поле серебряный пояс в делении национального флага, сверху в левую перевязь серебряный меч с золотой рукоятью.»[1]
Утвержден постановлением президента Латвии от 31 октября 1925 года.
Добеле была одной из главных крепостей Земгалии, у нее вырос древний город. Меченосцы уничтожили город, но крепость выстояла до 1289 года, когда земгалы, видя, что не удержат превосходящие силы Ливонского ордена, оставили ее и отступили в еще свободные земли (примечание: исход племени вдоль главных крепостей Добеле-Тервете-Межотне-Ракте и далее в Литву занял два года и сопровождался битвами с орденом).
Городище довольно долго пустовало, и лишь в 1335 году Ливонский орден возвел на том же месте крепость Доблен. Судьба местечку выдалась нелегкой, его много раз уничтожали войны и чума, и городские права Добеле получила только в 1917 году.
Меч символизирует древнюю борьбу земгалов за свободу, а щит - национальный флаг Латвии.[1]
